Traditional Edge Designs…Are you ready for a transformation?

I knew it… I knew the first time when I drew that kitchen it would change my life. I was right out the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, the online division. It was the hardest three years of my life. Only because I was pulling a forty plus hour a week as a floral designer and manager, but I did it. I looked and punded he pavement daily for my first internship or entry level interior design position; I think everyone in Dallas turned me down. Except for one remodeling firm…

My first job as design intern was for Sevant Remodeling in Dallas. The first two projects had I helped design both clients had their choice of a professional or me. They chose me…and I showed up and I delivered for my boss and client. To this day I am proud

The Smokenski Project was featured at the Dallas Home and Garden Show that year (2007) and in the October NARI Parade of Homes. The one question I get and the look I get is: Did you actually do this? The answer is yes and I have the original photos and drawings to prove it.

The next project under Servant Remodeling was a bath.It started out like a closet. All I had was floor plan and the cabinet measurements and It took off. The Jones Bath won NARI Bath of the year.

After serveral years of internship, working in retail and various showrooms, I have opened Traditional Edge Designs, an alternative for affordable interior design right here in Dallas. To fill my portfolio and add to my experience, I partnered with Decorilla. With themI have done a total ten projects all over the country.

I had the opportunity to do exclusive designer projects which are all on my own and of those ten I’ve done two in Texas. My very first project was in Desoto and it was huge! Four rooms all done within the clients budget. Here are some the befores and afters of the project.

Now it’s time to go all out on my own. My goal as lead designer is to give my client a beautifully designed home at a realistic, but affordable price. I offer services by the hour or bundled design packages. There’s no over charging, complete guidance through the process. If clients need more help I have a installer, two contactors, a seamstress (depending on how far they like to go) and an electrician to help with full redesigns. All licensed and bonded…I have one thats NARI certified. No job is too small.

It doesnt matter if you have a new home, or an older home that you love so much you’d like to update, Traditional Edge Designs is a full service residential design boutique ready to serve the metroplex….and beyond.

***New Design Consultation for the new projects only $59.00 (save $20 for a limited time)!!!***

Want to make a cool 3D floor plan? Try Planner 5d

Being an educated designer I fiercely threw myself into learning all the tools of trade as a young designer. I learned hand drafting, AutoCAD, Sketch Up and Revit. It’s not easy and only the technical survive. Then a few weeks ago I was introduced to a new tool that I added to my arsenal that for me changes game. It’s like Revit and Sketch Up had a baby; and it’s called Planner 5d.

I spent almost a month trying out Planner 5d program and it’s amazing. It’s great for seasoned designers, architects and the novice homeowner who want to plan out their space and have fun and be part of a community.

Before…it takes your ordinary drawings (by traditional edge designs)

After…to a gorgeous HD life-like drawing ready to present (by traditional edge designs)

This does not replace the designer because there’s more to design than drawing or putting a few blocks together. A lot more… believe me.

Planner 5d is not only fun, it’s challenging to your creativity. There are tiers of service to get the look you want. You can create floor plans using pre-made blocks. With any other drafting program you have to build from the ground up which I think is the steeping stone toward making creative projects on any platform.

This program can be used via the web, tablet (there’s an app for iPad users and Android is on the way) and even on your phone which is smart; so you can take and make ideas on the go.

The pricing for Planner 5d subscription plans start as follows:

1. Full catalog access for 7 days + 1 HD snapshot cost $2.99

2. Full catalog access for 60 days + 2 HD snapshots cost $4.99

3. Full catalog access for 1 year + 3 HD snapshots cost $9.99

4. Unlimited full catalog access +5 HD snapshots cost 19.99$

For additional HD snapshots which you can buy anytime are priced like this:

1. $0.99 for 1 HD snapshot

2. $29.99 for 40 HD snapshots

3. $49.99 for 100 HD snapshots

The block catalog is extensive and the colors are customizable. You have the option to change the walls, flooring, siding…any finish really. You are the designer. You can design a single story home or a modern skyscraper…it’s all in your hands (or mouse).

This program isn’t perfect and there are challenges… you just learn as you go.

The walls were tricky for me, stretching and watching the demo are key. If you click something on a wall, boom there goes your entire wall. Just like in sketch up, so be careful. Depending on the level you start at not all the tools are available so think carefully about what subscription you’d like to start at.

Planner 5d is the perfect companion I feel with drafted or sketched floor plans and is perfect for presentations.

So for any designer at any level Planner 5d is the low-cost alternative to more traditional and expensive CAD services. Try it out.
